How am I unique in this race?

How am I unique in this race? There are other parents that are candidates. I am unique in that I currently have children in multiple schools within the district, have 10 years of experience with CPS as a parent and will be in our district for more than a decade to come.

I believe that it is critically important that there is a parent on the board that understands the challenges that faces parents, students and families every day. Between school, homework, extra curricular activities, busing, carpooling, lunches, etc there are a lot of commitments and changing any of them can easily throw a routine into chaos.

When looking to any elected official, I want to make sure that they live with the ramifications of policy they enact for all of families of the district. Ensuring that your school board contains members that live with the impacts of policy changes means that changes take the needs of families into account.

As you think about your candidates when you go to the polls, ask yourself, do you want someone that understands the parents perspective and will be impacted by policy, or do you want someone that makes policy that impacts everyone but them? Let’s keep a parent’s perspective on the board.

Green Party Endorsement

I am happy to announce that I have been honored with the endorsement of the Hamilton County Green Party. At the start of my campaign, I stated that I was not running with any particular party or necessarily seeking to run with one. When I was approached about this endorsement, we had a discussion about this statement and my stance on the issue. My intention has always been to be as free as possible from influence that would impact how I make decisions. After talking with Green Party representatives, it became clear that our positions are in alignment, and there will not be a conflict in this regard. I am still running as an independent with the endorsement of the party.

Both the Hamilton County Green Party and I agree that there is a need to provide quality education for all of our students, with more transparency and collaboration from the Board of Education. The party has been very vocal about the need to address the increase in bullying in our schools, which is also one of my priorities. In addition, we are aligned in the belief that our students need to feel safe in schools for their mental well-being and to keep their focus on learning.

I gratefully accept the endorsement of the Hamilton County Green Party, and with your vote, I hope to do all that I can to improve our schools and our students' education as your next member of the Board of Education.

Last night we had an amazing crowd come out and support us at the Woodburn Brewery for our official campaign kick-off.  It was an evening of fantastic beer, great food courtesy of the Lagasea Cafe food truck, and exceptional conversation with members of the community.

It was helpful to have the opportunity to speak with more members of the community about what they think is great about our school system and the problems that need to be addressed.  It is clear that our community values CPS, I know we do.

The more I talk with parents, teachers, and community members the more I see that we can do amazing things if we work together to find solutions.  I can't wait to continue to engage with the people of our district to come up with new ideas as a group.  That is how we succeed, all working together for a common goal with everyone represented.

Thanks to all that made last night a great start to the next phase of the campaign.

News from the Board of Elections

On May 11, 2017, I delivered my completed petition to the Hamilton County Board of Elections. I was told that I was the first candidate to submit a completed petition.

I received a call from them on May 12. I was informed that there were “more than enough” signatures for my petition to be declared valid. David Brenner will be on the ballot in November! This is the first major milestone of my campaign.

I’d like to thank all of my friends & family that helped collect signatures. I would also like to thank the staff at the Board of Elections; they were extremely helpful throughout the entire process. Most of all, I would also like to thank the citizens of the city of Cincinnati for their trust when they signed the petition to put me on the ballot in November.

With this out of the way we will increase our focus on meeting with the members of the Cincinnati community. Look for me at your community council meetings, festivals, etc. I’d love to talk to you about your concerns and let me know what is important to you; remember, I will be your representative.

We will work to keep the website and Facebook up to date with events. If you would like to host a forum, please let me know. We would love to put you on our calendar to hear from your group.
